What stays on your PC
Elora's core runs entirely on your own hardware. The language model is served by Ollama on your machine; speech recognition and voice run locally too. Everything she remembers — conversations, the timeline of what she's seen, facts about you and the people you mention — is stored in a local SQLite database and a local vector index in Elora's data folder.
You can open that data, and one command wipes all of it.
What can reach the internet — only if you turn it on
Every outbound request passes through a single network guard. With cloud features off, Elora works without sending your conversations anywhere. You can choose to enable:
- A cloud voice (Edge text-to-speech) instead of the local voices.
- Online research with external AI services, under daily budget caps — findings wait in a review queue, and only what you approve is added to her memory.
- A remote model server you run yourself, if your PC is too small for the model you want.
Downloading the AI models themselves, the first time, also needs the internet.
What she sees, and how it's handled
To help in context, Elora periodically reads the text on your screen and notes which app is in front. That text is handled with suspicion:
- Screen text is never a command. It can be remembered and searched, but she will not follow instructions found in it.
- Sensitive pages are recognised — banking, password managers, health portals and identity documents — and observation drops to a minimum.
- Private text is redacted before anything is saved to her timeline.
- Sensitive background captures are encrypted on disk.
What she hears
Voice is push-to-talk: click and hold to speak, release when you're done. Only what you say while holding is transcribed, on your PC. Transcribing meeting audio from your speakers is a separate, optional feature.
You stay in control
- Privacy mode pauses perception entirely.
- A panic key hides her instantly.
- Risky actions on your desktop wait for your visible approval.
- Your data is yours to inspect or delete.
